Teachers are a busy bunch, we have lives outside of school, families, friends, and other commitments. We also don't have many opportunities to spend time with staff members outside of our areas of expertise. Today we went for drinks (choir practice), a perfect break finishing PD & just before spring break.
It is so nice to get to know your colleagues on a different level. To relax and converse about whatever it is that comes to mind. Inevitably, the conversations lead back to school in one form or another. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. It gives us time to reflect as teachers, to learn about our successes, failures, ask for advice or even just vent.
One of the things that I take away from these get togethers is the little glimpse into my colleagues lives. Learning things I didn't know. Other careers they've had, where they grew up, places they've travelled to.
